Next time you have 5 minutes to spare at the end of your lunch hour, try asking an AI like ChatGPT what motivates it. The response will probably be something like this...
"I'm just a computer program, so I don't have feelings, motivations, or consciousness..."
In that short sentence, we learn so much. Computers are fantastic at making calculations and processing inputs, but there is still so much that needs a human touch.
For the next two months, we've decided to do something special. We want to give you an insight into the friendly humans, working hard behind the tree line at Forest Computer Solutions.
This month we'll be talking to Gemma Brown in Marketing & Support.
FCS: So Gemma, please tell us what motivates you...
Gemma: Wanting to provide more for my daughter, better myself and improve my knowledge.
FCS: That's nice, caring for family is a great motivator. Please tell us a little about your work at Forest Computer Solutions.
Gemma: My main role is to help our customers to use the software and get the most out of it. If they have any issues or questions then I am on the other end of our chat support to help them however needed.
FCS: That's great. What do you enjoy most about your role?
Gemma: The flexibility of the job. It works well around Liv my daughter and the rest of my family. I am enjoying learning a new industry after teaching for the past 10 years and have always had a keen interest in technology.
FCS: It sounds like you're really enjoying the new role, how do you see things panning out in the future?
Gemma: My plan is to keep doing what I am doing; continue learning about software development in the tech sector. Also, to look at marketing strategies for Forest to try and build the business and expand it by finding further payroll avenues that we could explore in the future.
FCS: There's always more to learn, I'm sure your approach will pay off. Can you think of any notable experiences that have helped with your progress?
Gemma: I was very proud to complete my bookkeeping course, it was a big accomplishment as it was out of my comfort zone but I worked really hard to complete it with a merit overall.
FCS: Congratulations on completing the course with a Merit, having a foundation in bookkeeping will undoubtedly benefit the clients. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us.
Gemma: No problem at all.
Check in again next month when we'll be interviewing Keran Palfrey in Programming & Support.
